Teaching Writing: Children II

Lesson 2: Teaching Persuasive Writing

Presenting Their Work

In addition to the presentation ideas in the previous two sections, here are several other ways to share persuasive writing.

Author's Chair

Have students share their letters in an author circle. Let the rest of the class discuss the merits of each letter. Ask, did it show both sides of the argument? Did it convince you? Where do you stand on the issue after hearing the letter?

Where Do You Stand?

Create a display of students' letters. If students have taken "for" and "against" positions, divide the bulletin board in half and display each side of the argument.
