Breast Cancer

Lesson 6: Alternative & Complementary Medicine

Body-Manipulating Therapies

These therapies are just what they sound like - manipulation of your body. They include osteopathic care, chiropractors and massage therapists. While these methods won't change your cancer, they may help you deal with some of the symptoms, such as pain. Again, check with your doctor before you start anything. http://webmd.lycos.com/content/article/1...

I've been going to a chiropractor for years for migraines and it helps me. Other people find no benefit from the chiropractor. I did not visit the chiropractor during my cancer treatment. One of the odd benefits I received was that during chemo, I had no migraines. http://www.spineuniverse.com/displayarti...

I adore going for a massage. Many massage therapists will not treat you during cancer therapy. There are specially trained massage therapists who deal only with cancer patients. Even if you can't have a full body massage, you can participate in reflexology - hand and foot massage. I love having my feet rubbed. Others hate it.

There is a special type of massage - MLD - manual lymphatic drainage, which is used specifically for lymphedema. (Another section of another lesson).

I know nothing about osteopaths. Check out the links or let me know if you have any experience in this area. We are all here to learn. http://kidshealth.org/parent/system/doct... http://www.osteopathiecanada.ca/osteopat...
