Teaching Writing: ChildrenLesson 4: Using Journals and ReviewSome final thoughts...This workshop has covered the basics of teaching writing to children. We've looked at supplies and some great warm-ups to use to get the children ready to write. We have looked at the writing genres of narration and description. You should now know several teaching activities for each genre and ways to display and present student work. I hope you have found some ideas that were useful and could be applied in your classroom right away. We looked at journals in the classroom. You should now know about some of the many ways to use journals, both for content area writing and for personal, "creative" types of writing. They are a valuable learning tool, and if you haven't used them yet, I would strongly urge you to give them a try. You should also now know some of my favorite resources to use in the teaching of writing to children. I hope you sampled a few of the wonderful books I recommended. They are each inspiring and definitely belong in any writing classroom.
