Lesson 2: What everyone is or should be talking about: Water

A detailed examination of "Water" as a key environmental issue.

Objective

In this lesson we will get to look at water as a key environmental issue, relevant to everyone. By reading the resources and visiting the web-sites suggested in the course introduction, you will have a deeper understanding of why water is high on the environmental agenda. Further, the concept of sustainable development will become clearer especially with regard to managing the environment effectively and treating the environment as a common (using the example of water), indeed global good. This lesson will provide you with a basic discussion of a globally key environmental issue namely, WATER.

Building on training and education materials provided by the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS, is the science provider of choice in accessing the information and understanding to help resolve complex natural resource problems across the US), you will understand key concepts and relationships of water science. Based on this understanding you wll be able to make some informed decisions regarding a hypothetical water management issue.
