HOMEWORK
- Plan on spending 15 minutes with your child when he is in bed before he goes to sleep. Have him share his day with you. Practice listening skills: paying attention, giving feedback so that you are sure you understand what he is saying to you, encouraging him, and validating his feelings. Continue throughout the week to take time to listen when your child is talking and validate how he is feeling. Defuse emotional statements and words. For Ex: If your child says, “I really hate her! She is so awful!” You can validate her feelings by using these words: “You really dislike what she did to you today!”
- Find a time to talk to your child about problem solving. Take one of the
problems he might be experiencing and turn it into a fun way of exploring
plans of actions.
