Homework
- From your behavioral diary, make a list of any behaviors associated with non-compliance or destructive behavior. Purchase a timer and determine a safe, boring place to use as Time Out. Sit down with your children and explain Time Out to them and why you will be using it. Act out a possible scenario. Children love acting and it can make Time Out seem less threatening at this stage. Time Out doesn't have to be punitive. It tells your child you are serious about certain behaviors and that you will follow through with stopping them.
- From your behavioral diary, choose some problem behaviors and create choices and consequences resolving them. Write them down. Then try them out the next time these behaviors are repeated.
- Write down some sample instructions that you would give to your children. Make them into positive statements, with specific details asking for feedback to be sure they understand. Read it out loud to yourself several times so the words become familiar to you. Then the next time you give an instruction use the same format. Be sure to give your child your full attention when doing so.
