Packing Gear Lists: Preparation is Key!
There can be no one "ultimate" packing list for the backpacker.
Beyond the three essentials (a knife, a fire starter, and a large trash bag) -- and the ten essentials (as suggested by GORP experts) -- every outdoor adventure seeker's pack is unique.
Your choice of items to include in your list of things to take along will depend on many factors and priorities. For example:
- Can I carry all this weight all the way and back?
- Will I have the chance to use all of this stuff?
- Are all of these items crucial for my comfort, safety, sanity, and peace of mind?
- Am I gonna be in big trouble if I leave this item behind?
- Should I pack only for myself or should I bring extras for my hiking buddies?
