Lesson 2: James II and the Jacobites - Part 2
The Rising of 1745 was a war between two royal houses. The Stuart claim to the British crown possessed the stronger constitutional case, but England’s fear of Catholicism led Parliament to back the weaker claim, that of the House of Hanover. This lesson examines these two royal houses, how the Stuarts lost the throne in the first place, why some Scots chose to support the Stuart cause, and how the Stuarts sought to regain their throne.
