Shore Diving

Vancouver Island has the reputation of being a fantastic diving site. In fact, the Jacques Cousteau Society has rated the water surrounding Vancouver Island second only to the Red Sea for clarity and diversity of marine life. Winter is the best time for diving because the cold water temperature increases the underwater visibility. The popular sites are the Ogden Point Breakwater, Ten Mile Point and Race Rocks. Off the coast of Sidney, there is a sunken naval destroyer that is open for viewing by divers. There is another submerged vessel off of Portland Island. The best diving sites are on the east side of the Island.
