Live Theatre

Royal Theatre
805 Broughton St at Blanshard
Opened in 1913 as a roadhouse, it is has hosted famous performers such as Pavarotti and Baryshnikov. This is the home of Victoria Symphony and Pacific Opera Victoria. In between seasons, the theatre is used for touring performances. The original decor of the auditorium adds to the ambience of this regal theatre.


McPherson Playhouse
#3 Centennial Square (Pandora at Government)
Opened in 1914 as the Pantages Theatre, the name was changed to the McPherson Playhouse due to a bequest by Thomas McPherson to the city of Victoria. A major reconstruction project was completed in 1965 to improve the sound system and restore the original decor. This theatre hosts many professional and amateur venues throughout the year.
Belfry Theatre
1291 Gladstone Avenue
Built in the 1880's, this theatre was originally Emmanuel Baptist Church. The church's gymnasium was converted to a theatre in 1950. The lobby was the original chapel. Since 1991, the entire church has been renovated. The theatre company has been performing for over 25 years and features Canadian artists.
Langham Court Theatre/Victoria Theatre Guild
805 Langham Court
Since 1929, the Guild has undergone several name changes and associations. In 1950, the Victoria Player's Guild reunited with the Victoria Little Theater & Dramatic School. They renamed their playhouse to Langham Court Theatre. This company is very successful in community theatre productions.
Peninsula Players
The Charlie White Theatre
2243 Beacon Avenue, Sidney
This award-winning company started in 1952 and has been presenting a variety of productions ranging from classical dramas and comedies to children's plays. Over the years, the performances have been held in different locations in the Sidney area.
Phoenix Theatres
University of Victoria
Located at the University, the students of Theatre Arts offer public performances throughout the year. The shows include everything from the classics to the contemporary. The venue changes constantly so there is a never-ending offering to the patrons.
