University Drive (off Old Island Highway #14)
Once the mansion of coal baron James Dunsmuir, this estate is now forms the campus of Royal Roads University. In the basement of Hatley Castle, there is a museum that shows the lifestyle of this affluent family and how the buildings were changed to a Military College and then a University. The grounds have three formal gardens, the Italian, the Japanese and the Rose garden. There are guided tours, if desired, of the museum.
