Lesson 3: Attractions

Sidney

Sidney Marine Museum & Sidney Historical Museum
2538 Beacon
Both of these museums are operated by the Society of Saanich Peninsula Museums. The Marine Museum is devoted to the history, life cycle, and biology of whales. There are interactive exhibits, which help visitors learn all about these fascinating creatures. The Historical Museum recounts the lives of the local pioneer families at the turn of the century. Several of the displays are centered on domestic life such as a cooking and laundry.

British Columbia Aviation Museum
1910 Norseman Road (off the Pat Bay Highway)
Run by the British Columbia Aviation Museum Society, it is dedicated to preserving aircraft and artifacts related to Canadian aviation history. Displays include fully restored airplanes plus airplane engines, pictures, memorabilia, and model airplanes. There is also a memorial room and a gift shop.
Mineral World Scratch Patch
9891 Seaport Place (waterfront)
The Scratch Patch area is where the public can buy a collector's bag and pick out various gemstones. Visitors can learn the proper way to pan for gold. At the Dino Dig, visitors can chisel out special rocks to look for fossils. The new Interpretive Center has hands on displays and experiments all geared towards Earth Science. This is a family adventure.

We are now near the north end of the Saanich Peninsula. Set our starting point at Victoria again, then head westward.
