Esquimalt

Located east of downtown and across the Johnson St Bridge is this historic community. If was founded as a group of farms by the Hudson's Bay Company in order to supply Fort Victoria. Esquimalt is best known for its naval base, which was established in 1865. There a number of historical sites revolving around the navy.

It is a peninsula surrounded by water on three sides so visitors can enjoy an abundance of parks and beaches plus many scenic walks along the waterways. There is plenty of shopping and services due to high number of naval families living in this area.

It's proximity to Victoria and the Western Communities makes Esquimalt a desirable residential area. This municipality is a combination of residential, industrial and commercial development.
