Lesson 2: About Victoria and District Municipalities

Central Saanich

Located north of Victoria and Oak Bay, it is located on the Saanich Peninsula. The southern part, known as Saanich, has experienced a housing and commercial boom due to the availability of land for growth. It is still in close proximity to Victoria. It is your typical suburban area with shopping centres, schools, and recreational facilities.

Central Saanich is primarily an agricultural community with more recently, the addition of light industry, although housing and commercial development is moving northward. The communities of Brentwood Bay and Saanichton are encompassed in this district.

Saanich is the largest municipality and offers a variety of activities such as lakes, regional parks, beaches and gardens. The wide-open spaces make it attractive for people who want to leave the hustle and bustle of the city.

For more information on Saanich, please look at the British Columbia.com website.
