Lesson 2: About Victoria and District Municipalities

Port Renfrew

Located at the western terminus of the West Coast Road, it is a very small village but a gathering place for hikers who are heading out on the West Coast Trail and the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail. There are miles of beaches bordered by lush rainforest. It is where the Strait of Juan de Fuca meets the Pacific Ocean. The beaches are abundant with marine life and have a unique feature called potholes.

There is great saltwater fishing on the coast and freshwater fishing on the San Juan River. Some of the roads beyond the village are logging roads and require a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Port Renfrew is approximately 2 hours from Victoria.
