Rules, regulations and codes for Federal and State Agencies

Housing & Urban Development (HUD) Overview

The Federal department of Housing and Urban Development has recently instituted a new standard dealing with the issue of lead paint in residences. As a result you may see some changes in how repairs and/or renovations are performed in your residence. Some of the more notable issues with this requirement are:

  • Removing tenants from the affected area during the time when work is being performed;
  • Removal of tenant belongings from the area where work is being performed (or extensive coverage with plastic sheeting if it cannot be moved);
  • Extensive cleaning procedures being followed to protect residents from potential lead exposure;
  • Workers wearing what may appear to be moon suits while working to protect themselves from potential lead exposure; and,
  • Having to have a third party inspector conduct an inspection of the worked on area before permitting you to re-enter the worked on area.

These activities are being performed to help protect you, the resident, from lead exposure.
