Lesson 4: Rating Personal Literary Performance.

Section 4-3: Developing The Holistic Writer.

To achieve greater writing performance and enhancement of your skill set can involve the incorporation of the varied techniques we have reviewed thus far in this lesson series. In addition to the techniques already presented we will review more in upcoming sections.

A good tool of information to assist you in your efforts is to review other winning authors' information concerning what they do to achieve their writing goals. It is cliché that they all get up at four a.m. to write a few pages a day and then complete a novel within a year. I know of some authors' who take three-month sabbaticals to complete one novel at a time. Then they go back to their regular profession until they have the impetus to produce another novel. Some writer's enjoy music in the background others like to hear the sound of the typewriter as they put their thoughts onto paper.

They may enjoy sitting in a park, at the beach, etc. There is a multitude of ways to develop literary genius in written form. The best idea is for you to initially learn for yourself what situation helps you to create. Learn this for you and you alone. Take your "working" scenarios or techniques off the shelf and use them. Even if what works for you makes you appear somewhat eclectic. If you like to light candles, play variant music, write from two a.m. to four a.m., then do it! Those other folks in your life may not understand-maybe even complain and grumble, but you will achieve writing results by giving in to your spirit and inner voice when it is available.

Having a hand-held recorder present with you is never a bad idea either. You can be at a traffic light where a full rendition of a poem rolls off your brain. You can capture that image on the recorder for translation later in your day. When you cannot have a recorder handy, or if you cannot afford one, take a few deep breaths, concentrate on that image that just crossed your mind, make a mental memory imprint, and determine you will bring it back to your conscious mind through mediation, self-hypnosis, and/or inner voice recollection.
