Leisure Reading 101

Lesson 7: Sustaining Your Membership & Increasing Your Exposure

Gain exposure with the internet

Getting online is the most vital part in advertising your book club. There are so many free websites out there that it won’t cost your club anything. Templates are available for you to input your content effortlessly, without hiring a website designer to do it for you. All you have to know is basic HTML coding to layout your page professionally. Most websites provide the basic coding for you to start developing your page.

When developing your website to gain more exposure on the internet keep in mind the following:

- Home Page

- List of books the club has already read

- List of books the club plans to read in the near future

- List of any live author chats

- Bio for a featured author

- Web page counter. This is a must because numbers are everything and will help secure potential beneficial parties. This will be explained later in lesson 8.

- Contact page listing the person to send all queries to

- Advertise for visitors to subscribe to the club newsletter

Once you have a website up and running, the website address needs to be placed on all of your marketing materials and emailed to current and potential members.

Start surfing the net and become part of a webring. A webring is basically a multitude of websites with a common goal or common focus. This will provide more traffic for your website.

Going online will attract potential buyers and corporate entities that will be explained in more detail in lesson 8. For the most part, developing your webpage to reflect the image your club wishes to project and to convey the excitement of reading are important in this step.

You will gain not only exposure but also respect.
