Leisure Reading 101Lesson 6: Being The Backbone Of The Book ClubFinding suitable & enjoyable places to host your clubAsk family and friends about the most enjoyable places they've spent time in with friends to discuss books. Make notes about the places they mention. Also, ask your members if they would like to host the meetings at their homes. Provide clear expectations of how many people will be coming and how long the meeting will be. Bring everything that you will need to moderate the event and ask the hostess that is providing the place for the meeting to have certain things ready to ensure an enjoyable experience. For example, chairs, lighting in dim areas, soothing music, and kitchen for the food and drinks. Reserve a meeting room in a nice hotel that will provide beautiful scenery as you and the club members digest the book in the lap of luxury. Book the room for a special occasion and even see if members would like to contribute to the event. Be spontaneous and have an outdoor meeting, which is so much fun during the summer. Of course the hot rays are a factor, but do it in the late afternoon when the sunset and the cool breeze is upon you. Dine out. Pick a day or night when the restaurant won’t be as crowded and enough seats are available to make the event personal. Bookstores are expanding. Most major chains have sections set up to provide coffee or snacks to book lovers. Many large chains have tables set up for people to mingle or sit and read a book. Why not bring the club there on a weekday that is less busy and nosy and discuss the book? The key here is being creative and enjoying the experience at the same time.
