Lesson 6: Being The Backbone Of The Book Club
In this lesson we will discuss mastering the draw of interesting conversation relating to the book of discussion. The moderator will learn how to develop a road map to keep the discussions alive, entertaining, and fulfilling. In general, this lesson will provide exceptional ideas to make your book club unique, special and a grand affair.
Let's talk with motivation
Do it with style. When talking to members and potential members learn to say it with style. How to do this effectively? Smile and make eye contact. Be sure the words you are using are pronounced perfectly, meaning make sure you hit your t’s and d’s. For example, most of us don’t really trying to speak clearly. We either are rushing what we are saying or don’t make clear the words we are using. Please read the sentence below out loud. The cat ran up the block after the children poured water on its tail. Did you make all your t’s and d’s? Listen to your voice. Hear the sounds that make up the words. Now repeat the sentence once more, with style, really conveyeing the meaning of the sentence. For instance, the sentence can convey feeling from the point of introducing the cat running up the block, or you can convey more emotion as to why the cat ran after the children. The simple sentence helps you to easily and quickly identify your style of speech. You will use your style of speech to motivate new members to join your club. Remember it is all in the way of conveying your message in your speech that emotionally inspires a person to support your cause. Show emotion about loving books and wishing others to join in the fun. Use your style to emphasize the author’s message on the title your book club has decided to read. Look over the back copy and read an excerpt. Then read it out loud. Put some style to the sentence or sentences. Use this publicity blurb to entice others to join in the fun. Trust me, you will get positive responses. Let's proceed to the next exercise: “Master the pizazz in being a book club moderator.”
