This practice will further increase one’s awareness of literature and allow the person to be erudite about fine quality literature. Why Retention is so important in reading literature Retaining what you read is important because you must be able to capture the author's purpose in teaching you about a passionate subject and share this understanding with others. It allows you to fully appreciate the literary experience. We must come to terms with the primary focus of the author and reader relationships. It is a form of giving from one to another and both entities must respect one another by fully making an effort to understand both parties' initial cause. 1. What is the subject? The title, etc.? 2. Who is the author? 3. What were the recurring points the author made throughout the content of the text? These three questions are easy for you to remember and will encourage your mind to retain more effectively.
