Lesson 2: Ultimate Love Affair With Words

The focus in this lesson will be on the profound and influential words of poetry and the classic essay. We will break down the many styles in different cultures from past poets to the current ones.

Opening up one's Soul

Having the power to touch another person’s heart and soul is a blessing that continues on and on. Reading poetry and essays empowers the reader to relate to the message being presented. The reader is moved to a higher understanding, resulting in the formula outlined in Lesson 1:

Reading: for information + understanding = enjoyment of the reading experience

Many poets are known for their unique expression of lyric passages about the self, the earth, loved ones, and life in general. They call upon your emotions to hear their voice of reasoning from their soul, opening up its universe. It begins as a thought in a poet's mind and then the thought turns into a moving and breathing entity of expression that must be put on paper. This thought in the form of a word is a powerful word leading to more phrases, developing into a powerful poem.

Anyone who can transpose words into an electrifying phrase is showcasing their creativity. Poetry delivers this true essence to readers completely. Poets often, but not always, move on to write essays, another creative art form that showcases this thought using supporting statements around an original thought or issue.

Essays command our attention as the essayist instills a breathtaking scene for what truly needs to be exposed in order to reach a resolution or reflection. The essayist’s original thought transfers onto paper in order to move you, the reader, to a higher knowledge of the subject matter. An essayist is centered on a particular cause that must be heard and understood.

The essay usually begins with flattery to the reader, in hopes that you will agree to continue on with the journey. Once you reach the middle of the essay, the true original thought exposes itself and the supporting dialogue continues to completion. You either are in an agreement or disagreement or perhaps unsure...but you are moved nonetheless.
