Lesson 3: Name, Logo, Business Cards, Letterhead, Website

Putting it all together

Now you're ready to get going. Let's just review what you have:

  1. You have a clear idea of what your business is offering. You're offering that product or service because it is what you enjoy and do well and because it is most likely to find customers among people to whom you have easy access.
  2. You know the identities of several groups whose members are likely to buy what the business is offering. You put yourself in their place and, if you were them, you'd buy from your company.
  3. You've got (and have already spent) some money to complete your start-up and financing is in place for large orders.
  4. You have a registered or incorporated business doing business under its own name or you're doing business under your name. You may be a member of a partnership. If not doing business under your own name, the name you have chosen is one which would be attractive to the members of the groups you're going to sell to.
  5. You have business cards with a logo which reflects your business and which the people in your target groups will like.
  6. You have a place of business with which you are satisfied and which can be closed off when necessary.
  7. You have a phone with its own line and call-answer service which takes messages when your line is busy.
  8. You have a fax machine with its own fax number.
  9. You have a computer system with a good printer.
  10. You have an e-mail address with your own domain name.
  11. You have a letterhead on the computer giving the address of the place of business, the phone number, the fax number and the e-mail address and with the same look as the business card, aimed at being attractive to your target groups.

Yep, sounds like you're ready. Now you can go public with the news of your new venture and start serving your customers.
