Both "The Gift of Depression" and "Noonday Demon" are full of stories about people coping.

"Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy" and "The Feeling Good Handbook", both by David Burns MD who pioneered cognitive therapy, are excellent self-help books for turning around your negative and distorted thinking. For the purpose of this course, the books are optional, for reading and implementing in your own time - time and money well-spent.
