Lesson 3: Coping: the psychological aspectsLearning to accept your limitations. Dealing with "Fibrofog.” Dealing with depression. Support issues: Educating your loved ones, finding a support group. IntroductionMost people with fibromyalgia have spent a long time being told our problems are all in our heads. As this report from the FAME 2000 Fibromyalgia conference explains, It's Not All In Your Head. Many of us were told that we were just depressed - and then dismissed. We were labeled hypochondriacs, or convinced ourselves that we were simply not good at functioning with the normal aches and pains of aging. And all of the time we were in pain, in a mental fog, and in misery. Of course we're depressed! Who wouldn't be after spending all that time hurting and being blamed for it? It is normal to be depressed not only about that, but about the realization that this is our life. We're going to be hurting and in a fog for the foreseeable future. But you can deal with it.
