Great Philosophers
Philosophy is the product of a number of factors, firstly of theology, ie. our inherited religions. It's also about concepts of ethics and morals including animal rights as well as human rights The philosopher, Bertrand Russell, described philosophy as "the No-Man's Land between theology and science." Some philosopher are scathing about the subject. "Metaphysics is the finding of bad reasons for what we believe upon instinct," said F.H. Bradley in Appearance and Reality, 1893. Socrates (469-399 BC) was less cynical: "The unexamined life is not worth living," he said in Plato Apology. It is an essential part of our humanity that we need to search for meaning about our place in the Universe.
Whatever that is!
