Thanks for the timely and informative two-part article. A thought...I prefer to use bypass pruners for all my work because of the absebce of strength in my hands. Your analogy of a knife on a cutting board for anvil pruners is a good one. I need very sharp knives and cleavers to chop in the kitchen. It is also a taxing process for me. The same with pruning... If not accomlished with a very sharp blade and very quickly with a decided snap (!) a cut with anvil pruners leaves a jagged or smashed cut. This is often slow and hard for the plant to heal.
