» Jose_Aniceto - Technology One problem I have with Science Fiction is that the technology used in most space-crafts still use rocket technology. This is inefficient because it requires a lot of fuel and an almost perfect combustion system to counter gravity.I am yet to see an author who can present an alternate technology. :-) -- posted by Jose_Aniceto » alissa23 - Re: Technology In response to message posted by Jose_Aniceto :
In many of the science fiction magazines such as Asimov's and the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, I've seen stories that explore space travel technology that is based as yet undiscovered laws of physics. Of course, there is also those wormhole and blackhole stories that have been around awhile. I don't know how scientifically accurate this technology is either, but I would definitely have to disagree that most writers rely on rocket technology. Thank you for your post on this topic. By the way, have you come up with a suitable alternate technology? You might try working it into a story of your own. Take care, -- posted by alissa23 » Jose_Aniceto - Re: Re: Technology In response to message posted by alissa23:For years I've battled with it and still searching for an answer. I'm probably influenced by current physics theories. For example; to make space travel worthwhile, I belive that a spaceship would have to travel at the speed of light (if not faster). Problem: Einstein believes that nothing travels faster than light, because a mass (spaceship) that travels faster than light begins to transform itself into energy. -- posted by Jose_Aniceto » alissa23 - Re: Re: Re: Technology In response to message posted by Jose_Aniceto :Jose, Actually, the idea of a spaceship that travels so fast that it transforms itself into energy sounds like a great idea for a story. No, I'm not quite sure how one would go about writing this, but I think someone with a background in physics and some imagination could take this somewhere. I'm sure there must be a way of harnessing these ideas . . . and the energy as my imagination travels faster than the speed of light . . . Thanks for keeping my head spinning, -- posted by alissa23
