» moonstonewolf - Do Online Writing Sites Count?

I was just wondering about that as I read your article. I belong to a couple of online writing communities and I do publish my material free. Do I get credit for those stories as well.

Thank you for such and informative article.

In response to message posted by moonstonewolf:

Take all the credit you can get! In this case, I would recommend siting the website(s) where your work was published in your cover letter. Editors are not always eager to take a chance on new writers, but when they see that you have some success under your belt, you become a less "risky" prospet. Good luck with all your writing and publishing.

» poetmom - previous publications

This is a general question about previous publications. (I don't write Sci-Fi, but I write poetry). When publishers request "no previously published work", do I "count" a publication in a school's literary magazine (both high school and college)? I have had two poems published in my high school's lit. mag, and 2 in my colledge one.
Along that same line, WHEN I am able to get published in a literary magazine (or similar publication), and they ask for a short bio listing previous publications, do I mention those same school's literary magazines? (This being under the assumption that I have not yet built up numerous other publications that I am able to reference; so the choice then is to either list none or to list the school's publications).

Thanks!
