I am a firm believer in avoiding contests that cost money. On the other hand, I invest at least thirty-seven cents every time I make a submission to an editor so I guess thirty-seven cents might be a reasonable entrance fee.

On the other hand, I did win two contests so I guess that at least some of them are legit.

You have a good point, Henry, but I do think many times a person can separate the legit from the questionable contests simply by looking to see what entity is sponsoring the contest.

And belated congrats on your contest wins.

are fun; as long as you don't enter those that have a fee. Of course, you could spend your money on less desirable things!

I couldn't agree with you more, Jerrib, and think that contests also help new writers hone their skills.

Guess I have a competitive streak in me that is goosed by the prospect of a contest.
