To give comment on the remarks placed by him or her that wants to be a second Erasmus (you can forget that, quit trying): don't judge to quickly my friend, because first of all I'm half Asiatic (Indonesian:muslim country although I'm jewish). So I do know other than 'western mentalities', whatever the content of that may be. As for Hindi, I know it's 'just another language'. Do they have to become difficult to be interesting? Hindi is not the only language that is worth studying. Ill mention some that I have been studying: Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, Sardu, Mirandes and Hebrew. 'Zelfgenoegzaam' is not the word for it, but rather 'wijde interesses voor de pracht van diverse talen'.
Just like you try not to prejudice on different languages, for instance those we already discussed (portuguese vs spanish), it is certainly not right for an Erasmus-wannebe (now I can imagine your personality), to guess about people you don't know of. This, notwithstanding the fact that indeed there are a lot of Hare Krishna-nitwits walking around in India.
