» andysilva - Romany loan words in Scots

It is interesting that although Romany words might not have made it into mainstream English, they are commonly used in the east central dialect of Scots.Examples below.

Gadge - man
kushti- perfect/lucky
Radge - mad/idiot
Scran - food or to beg
chory - to steal
Barrie - great/great looking

These are just some examples that I have used all my life and never realised that they were Romany in origin until I was an adult.

Cheers,

Andy
