Barb,

Oh, do I ever agree with you! You would think that there would be more available jobs posted on the Internet that were viable, employment opportunities that any of us could perform from our homes. There is a phenominal demand for technically trained professionals, but there seems to be very little otherwise - for people like you and me.

I receive hundreds of emails a week from various sources letting me know of "opportunities" - most of which I look through whenever I get a chance. But, to be honest, most of them are business opportunities, and not employment opportunities. Those that I do find, I have posted for everyone to use at their discretion.

I also agree with you when you say that the Internet is the future marketplace of the world.... although I think that the future is here! :>

Any other readers who have successfully found work to perform from home have any tips for the rest of us?

Hello Sherwin, and thanks for joining in!

I have yet to come across a website that offers employment for word processing or desktop publishing at home that does not require a fee to view the opportunities. However, that does not mean that they are not out there! I'll take a good look later on today, and see what I can find for you along that avenue, and post it here for everyone.

As for starting your own business, I think that that is an excellent idea, considering the amount of experience that you have in your field, and at that level. There are a couple of websites that I know of that can offer advice on what to do to get started.... and as soon as I locate them, I will post those here as well. (I am just not at my own computer right now, or else I would post immediately.)

In the meantime, if there is a temp agency in the area, call them and ask them if there are positions like the ones that you are looking for, working out of the home. (I know that I have mentioned this resource many times before - but I cannot stress it enough! It really is one of the best ways to get some quick business, especially if you live in a larger metropolitan area.)

Wen, thanks for the great information!! Those were great comments.

Sherwin, I'm in your shoes, too! I've been looking for nighttime AT HOME word processing in NYC for the past few weeks, without a single nibble of success. I called my former temp agency and they said that they don't offer those kinds of positions because of the insurance liabilities involved if something happens to me at home while I'm working. But they said they would keep me in mind if a company called about that kind of position and they would pass my name along and let me do it freelance.

I'm about to start calling law firms and volunteer my services for transcription on weekends...I'm hoping someone takes me up on it!

Thanks for the helpful tips, Wen...
And, Bonny, thanks for the article! I think all stay home moms can feel like the *only one* and it helps when we share our experiences and commonalities.
In addition to homeschooling my three little people I have also worked from home....and know all too well the challenges of such a choice....but I also appreciate the blessings.
Your article made me wonder how I managed my now 2yo, when she was a wee tike :-)

Angella, from everything I've read, those things are scams, and I would stay away from it.

The really hard part, it seems, is for all of us to find TRUSTWORTHY online sites that highlight possibly work opportunities.

I think the only way the "miracle list" would be okay is if 6 people who want to see the list pay for it together -that way you are only paying $2-3 bucks each, and don't lose $20!!

Would it be feasible for all of us here to chip in and get a miracle list? Perhaps, perhaps not. I would think these "lists" are catered to your specific city/state. Then again, they may just a national list of companies.

From what I've heard, the list is really just a list of companies that you can apply to, just as you would any other company. It's not a list of specific employment ads. Therefore, it's not really worth the money.

Wen, I cannot agree with you more. And I do not think that I could even try to add to it succesfully, so I will not.

Jane, you have an excellent idea - getting a group of people together to "pitch in" and gain access to one of these sites. I have tried, with no success as of yet, to gain temporary admission to any of these sites, just to review them and then report on them here. I would love to be able to do so out of my own pocket, but I have a feeling that it would add up very quickly, with little to no avail.

I think that the suggestions presented by some of our members here are great ones, and are leaning in the right direction - the process of finding work at home may not be easy, but it is possible, with the right methods and a lot of hard work.

AMEN TO THAT SISTER. I guess we will be waiting until hell freezes over before we can find a job that we don't have to pay for.

I tell you it makes me extremely sick to my stomach. Everyone either wants money directly up front or are not up front enough to directly ask for it so they ask for it in hidden text somewhere in the information they send.

I have just gotten used to thinking and knowing that the bottom line is money, so I just don't get enthused.

Have a good day. Good luck.
