» kmsj410 - Mommy Wars The ongoing argument w/. regard to stay at home vs career in raising a child (children) is both counterproductive and a 'moot' point of view. Having been in both scenarios during my child's growing years the obvious portion to the equation is the single factor that entails 'the quality of parenting' that you afford your children.Today's society places many encumbrances upon the financial ability to survive on a single household salary. Couple that w/. the number of single parent households where having a choice about career is not an option. A good parent ensures that the family life is wholesome, well rounded and a nurturing environment. The ability to ensure this entails continual readjustment and juggling of priorities. A parents ability to master this skill is not inherent upon staying home or choosing career. Both sides hold their drawbacks as well as advantages. Children draw and flourish from the security they receive from their home environment. Studies done on the subject should focus on the type of home environment the child resides in, the supports in place for them and the actual statistics that precipitated "well-rounded" - "dysfunctional child" determination. It is my estimation that the conclusions drawn would no longer focus on the career vs stay home debate but rather on the actual parenting style. -- posted by kmsj410
