» biogardener - Same old story

Same old story. It's the easy way out for the justice system to offer a plea bargain. It saves them the trouble of having to prove anything. No wonder people take justice into their own hands. I am surprised that this offender was not knocked off in prison by someone who had nothing to lose and who would have been outraged at the thought that someone old enough to be his grandmother was brutally victimized.

In Winnipeg, when a dangerous criminal gets out of jail, (pedophiles, murderes, rapists) the community is ready, posting their pictures all over the community. Criminals get the message that Winnipeg is not a safe place to try to hide, so they move on to other provinces where no one is watching them and they are free to continue their life of crime. BTW, the police and the media are helping the community in this effort. The defense lawyers are screaming, but so far they have not been able to do anything about it.

Hi Jerri,

Yes, she is a winner. Just goes to show that age is just a number!

I can't imagine either, but watching the HBO documentary and seeing how Florence Holway stood up for her rights was amazing.

Thanks for stopping bysmile

Hi Tamara -

Thanks for your kind words. It is a tough subject, I feel, with the fact that sociey and people are still uneducated about the whole concept of abuse.

Hi Traute -

Believe it or not, where I live no one puts up a photo or any information about pedophiles living in certain areas.

In fact, I found out about a year ago or so (2003-2004) that a registered pedophile lived four houses down from me! That is right - no one informed our neighborhood and no signs were posted.

They lived near me in 2000, and I found out around I would say November of 2003 - maybe...I believe that he is gone now.

It is sad and yes it is the same old story, isn't it?

And yes, the easy way out and a cheaper way out.

Thanks for your thoughts and information about your town. I wish mine was like yours.

» biogardener - Illegal but effective

What Winnipeggers are doing is illegal, but the legal system uses jails like revolving doors, and the community is fed up with it. I imagine that some local activists, including members of the police department, will sooner or later go to jail for standing up against abuse, but maybe that is the only way to fight against the system.

In the last year, one of the pedophiles served out his sentence after having refused any kind of rehabilitative treatment. Everyone, including the defense, agreed that he would offend again. Well, he won't be doing it in this province. It is too bad, though, that he is most likely doing it somewhere west of here, at least until he gets caught again. And then the scenario will start all over again, leaving a trail of victims behind.

I saw the HBO special last night. I was shocked when I realized that I had been raped, here in California, the same exact day as Florence Holway. The man who raped me was satanist and I found out that Easter Eve is the night of important rituals to satan worshipers, which require rape or sexual relations. It happened to me on a blue moon which could be even more important to them, I'm not sure.
I figure that information is always a good in this kind of thing since most people know so very little about these kind of people. It took me many years of study and many people helping to figure out why it happened to me.
Most people don't even believe that this kind of thing really exist. Oh, but believe me, it does. San Bernardino County, here in California is the where it is very known that the largest occult of black magic exists. Some of there practices are power of suggestion which thrive on the fear a person experices, mind control, and magic. But what it all boils down to is that if you truly believe in God, you can overcome anything because he will give you the strength

Hi Cheryl,

I didn't realize that about Easter Eve. The man who raped Florence Holway stated that it was his birthday...got drunk and went wild (so he says.)

You're right - If you truly believe in God, you can overcome anything. Having the faith and the strength to go on.

It sounds like you believe, you have the faith, and you gained the strength to go onsmile

» Red - great article...

Tery,

Great article. Florence has spunk and that's what it's going to take for the Justice system to realize that we, as women, aren't going to put up with any type of abuse, whether is be verbal, physical or sexual. We need to stand strong and send out this message. Until they all get it, we need to continue to make our voices heard.

There is a horrific story here in Canada. I have an article about it on my Canadian Tourism site, here.
http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/5086...

This was an atrocity. The Canadian Justice System sure goofed on this one. The Ken & Barbie murders were all over the papers in both Canada and the US. This woman is up for release this year. They didn't give her any kind of parole, but now they have to release her. The sad thing about the case is, they didn't revoke the plea bargain even when they learned she had lied about her role in the sexual assaults and murders of these school girls. She and her co-hort even sexually assaulted and killed her own sister.

The problem is, the corrections officials and law enforcement know that she is going to reoffend. Look her up on the internet and get a good look at her face. She may be the next one who moves in next door. Our children aren't safe while she is on the loose.

The Canadian people have threatened her life and say they won't put up with her in their neighborhood, yet the law can't do anything about her until she reoffends. She should have been marked a Dangerous Offender so her movements could have been monitored.

Well, enough. This case appalled me. I just can't see why they didn't lock her up and throw the key away.

She is such a strong person, and it appears she has been this way all her life. I certainly celebrate her life and determanation to progress. Her paintings had such beauty and peace, and I'm sure that they came from her inner strength. I for one would be honored to buy any of her paintings.
