What is the role of the mother? How are they viewed by society and their families? How do women view motherhood? I am intrigued with this topic and I am doing some research as well.

They say God couldn't be everywhere and that is why he created Mothers. It is true of course. Mothers in India are not that very much different from those over the world. In fact, motherhood and marriage has not at all lost its relevance even in women-empowered communities inside the country.

That is really good to hear. And interesting. So within what we would call "feminist movements" in India, the women still really value motherhood and their opportunities to be mothers?

There are no 'feminist movements' in India, as there are in North America.
India has a history of having women leaders, albeit few of them over the centuries, again unlike North America.
There is a movement (already law in some parts of the country) to reserve a significant number of the seats of government for women. This has helped a woman to become mayor of the city of Cochin, in the state of Kerala.
One woman (in a history of 52 years as an independent nation) has been prime minister and there are several who have been chief ministers of the states.
Indian women believe that motherhood is their most important calling.
