Another fascinating article! L. Frank Baum's history has always been fascinating to me. As you wrote in your article, I read that he was a better storyteller than businessman. He'd tell stories in his Baum's Bazaar. The kids would crowd the store, buy penny candy when they could. But because of the drought in 1880 (?) most of the townspeople couldn't afford anything. I still love the image of Baum sitting on the dusty sidewalks telling stories to kids who begged for them.
I have the annotated WOZ on my headboard. This article has prompted me to finally read it. Looking forward to your next article, as always...
