Painted Ladies: Victorian ArchitectureRead the article this discussion is about

» H2O - Hearthstone: Appleton's Painted Lady was the first home in the world wired for and powered by electricity--albeit only for lighting and using bare copper wires. The home was built over a period of three years as the builder, the president of the gas and electrical works, sought to impress his would-be bride to move to Appleton from the east. She never came and thus never enjoyed the beauty and majesty of this house. It is a dream of mine to buy a Victorian and lovingly restore it. Anyone in the Milwaukee area have one they'll sell on land contract? ;) john -- posted by H2O
