» RoySchweiker - history of flash floods

Perhaps you know already, but this very trail segment was the subject of a multi-day search a few years ago. Two girls got ahead of their backpacking youth group and actually made it to the shelter from Chatham. The others turned around and one of the leaders staggered out in the middle of the night, the others "rescued" next day to Chatham. The two girls found themselves stranded between high brooks and stayed at the shelter a couple days while officials searched for them elsewhere. Finally the water went down and they were found in good shape.

Paul Doherty reports a rumor of a steam locomotive buried by a flood up there, but he never found it.

So how is Lisa with her last 10 peaks?

Wow! I had no idea. Great tidbit!
I still have 10 more peaks to go, though this weekend, I might notch off a couple more. It's been a busy year that has kept me away from hiking!
