I just did the loop up & down ski trails yesterday, and both of the above are true, depending on which one you take :-)

If you take the steeper trails near the lift line, they are rocky and overgrown and steep. The beginner trails tend to be grassy, I followed the ATV tracks used by the ski area starting up Bobcat Trail, and came down their route on Polecat Trail, there was some knee-high grass but mostly ankle-high and no brambles or trees.

Just as other places in the mountains, if you try the steeper "short cut" it is likely to be tougher going.

One advantage of ski trails is that you see wildlife far ahead and can plan accordingly. I took half a minute to decide how to bypass the bear 100 yards ahead, all wasted when he saw me and ran off :-)
