» Carol Wallace - Interesting I remember when Hurricane Hugo paid us a visit - or perhaps it was another storm encouraged by Hugo. At any rate it never threatened us much and so my husband and I sat on the porch to watch, along with our cat. The tree tops were swaying madly when the cat decided to leave the porch. I raced after him because I was afraid he'd get blown away. And I found it hard to stand against the wind - but the cat walked around as though it were a sunny calm day. There were no real winds down at his height.-- posted by Carol Wallace » Carol Wallace - Re: Interesting In response to message posted by amy_marquis:As a gardener I think about it often. You can grow plants that aren't normally hardy if you can shield them from the direction the winds normally take. And they do seem to favor some directions over others. -- posted by Carol Wallace » jerrib - The movie sold, though, didn't it? It was a tearjerker. However, the ten-foot-high waves do seem to be a possibility. This is really interesting in relation to the movie. I'll look forward to more. After all, the northwest always includes the weather in conversations as it changes so much! The more i learn the more interesting I may be when I discuss our favorite subject! I sat through a hurricane watch in Florida and I'll take western Washington rain any day. Jerri -- posted by jerrib » Car - Re: Re: Re: The movie sold, though, didn't it? In response to message posted by jerrib:I must say after having lived through hurricanes and tornados... I don't like either. I remember the tornado that ripped through Harvey's Lake (do you remember that one Carol?). I was about 3 miles from where the tornado touched down... in my car... driving home from work. Then there's the imfamous Hurricane Flyod from last year. That one flooded out my local library and it's been over a year since I've been able to check out new books. -- posted by Car
