In response to message posted by gwen1:My experience with bog plants has taught me they are very forgiving, by that I mean they will, for the most part thrive in an incredible array of circumstances. Since I am not sure what your conditions are (sun, shade, part shade, lots of rain, little rain, hot, mild, humid, dry.etc)here are some ideas that have worked in my garden (zone 5 or northern 6, hot summers-lately with little rain, mostly shade and humid.)
I think the plants need some drainage so I would leave the drain hole open. Next I would suggest putting 1-2" of gravel in the bottom and then filling the tub with good garden soil, some experts recommend not using compost, but I mix in a goodly amount. Leave an inch or two at the top for mulch. Plant the garden and water very well, you can't really water too much. Top it off with mulch, any organic will do. Maintenance is simply making sure the soil is moist at all times, so water well, and fertilize the plants as nessesary. Most every plant I have treated this way has done well, even in the shade. I mulch heavily in the fall, and have had semi tropicals survive winters and bloom for me the following year.

In response to message posted by VickiPaull:Thanks so much for your response. It's most helpful. It sounds like you live in the same climate I do and perhaps not far away---northeastern Kansas. My garden is mostly shade with sun during parts of the day, due to the neighbor's trees. Since I have room for a few other small plants, what else would you suggest? The one I have is a lobelia.
