» VickiPaull - Nice to be here! Thank you for your warm greeting!I know I'm going to enjoy covering Water Gardens as much as I enjoy the garden itself. Thanks again, Vicki Paull Water Gardening Editor -- posted by VickiPaull » Naomi_Mathews - Welcome, Vicki! How very nice to have you join the "Gardening" gang here on the Suite! I've not ever done much "Water Gardening" other than water my flowers. (-: It will be fun getting acquainted with this new topic -- and with you as a Contributing Editor! Enjoy yourself here on the Suite, and may your stay be fulfilling and longstanding. (-:-- posted by Naomi_Mathews » VickiPaull - Glad to be here! Thank you Naomi and Nick,Last week I went out to the "Rock Road" and started gathering materials for my pool addition, while there I discovered a wonderful old spring house and what was left of a home of long ago. We collected many fine stones for the pond and enjoyed the incredible beauty of the area. I think the only thing that I could enjoy more than building my pond is writing about it. Thanks again for the welcome, I'm looking forward to many more articles, and to knowing everyone here. Vicki -- posted by VickiPaull » terri_in_pa - this is wonderful! HI Vicky,am so glad to see a category for water gardening. There is so much information to be shared...I too have a pond....about 12 by 12 round and 3 1/2 feet deep at its deepest point..This will be spring season number 2 and i am so looking forward to the fish and plants waking up! My yard has been created for butterflies, bees and birds (no luck there!) and the pond fits nicely, being landscaped for the butterflies, etc. Anyway, am so looking forward to your future articles on ponding, and between this site and Naomi's site, i'll be busy all year long! Good luck!! terri -- posted by terri_in_pa » islander - Ponds Three years ago we put in two ponds, appox.20' x 12', connected by a stream with a couple of waterfalls. The deep pond is 3.5', the other is 1.5'. The goldfish are safer from the crane in the deeper one. But we now have enough plants growing and the fish reproducing, that the few we lose to our daily morning visitor doesn't effect the overall population. (A small aside: one day we had a mink that pulled out a large fish, larger than we realized we had. Our Chow chased the mink into the lilac bush and later caught it). As the plants grew the water became clearer. We now have a good balance in our ponds. The water irises have grown tremendously, that we have had to remove several large pots, which we donated to our golf course. All our other plants are also doing well. The sound of the water falling into the pond and then running over the rocks, down the stream is very refreshing on our hot summer days. -- posted by islander » VickiPaull - Sounds lovely! You are obviously someone who loves to garden.Reading your message makes me ache for summer! I have been doing the spring things-repotting, and enlarging my very small pond, but I'm anxious to see things GROW!!! -- posted by VickiPaull
