Well, I'm not sure that is the name he called. Martha Stewart featured those gardens on her program. I do wish I had taken the time to write down the names to send to you. Anyway this large garden there has a very large area that is known as the Moss Gardens and they are within a larger public garden. Lucious green moss is the total foundation of the area. Oh, it was so very lovely. I do think he said it was across the Sound or across the Bay. I wonder how one gets in touch with Martha Stewart? LOL!! Edited: I just emailed her. Hope she replies! -- posted by Dubh_Sidhe » jerrib - Re: Re: Re: tulips In response to message posted by Dubh_Sidhe:Actually, the Naval Shipyard is at Bremerton, which is across the Sound, as is the Bangor Naval Submarine Base in Silverdale. Also one at Keyport. Lots of them around. And we have Army Posts and Air Force Bases near Tacoma/Olympia. However, I think you are probably talking about the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island. I'll have to do an article soon. Meanwhile, take a look at some of our beautiful gardens at this link: http://www.futonandbreakfast.com/garden.... - enjoy yourself! -- posted by jerrib » dequizq - Tulips I am so far from your neck of the woods, but Tulips, Tulips, Tulips! Love those flowers. I have a little story I should forward to you-you would enjoy.I could just have a pasture full of Tulips and sit in the middle basking for hours. That would be the ultimate to me! How do you have so many sites to manage? D. -- posted by dequizq » Sunbear - Skagit Hi Jerri,I read this article previously, but apparently forgot to leave you a post. I have heard of the Skagit tulip area, and it has been featured in at least one mystery novel that I read (can't remember the author's name). Would enjoy going to the festival sometime. Tulips are among my favorite flowers. -- posted by Sunbear » jerrib - Re: Tulips In response to message posted by dequizq:Hi Donna. There's something magical about tulips, right? I love them, too. However, they get their poor little heads chewed off by deer here, so I can't plant them. Daffodils have to do me. I see my husband planted some that haven't been found by the deer yet (they aren't opened) - maybe I'll get a bit of a taste this year! I manage a bunch of folks - once the Suite is done with reorganizing its ME staff, I probably won't be managing as many. Suits me just fine for now. -- posted by jerrib » AnneWatkins - Tulips! Oh, I love tulips and I think the flower flight you mentioned would be too much fun. Great article, Jerri, really made me wish I could visit! Thanks.Anne -- posted by AnneWatkins » Jonell - Ah, yes, the beautiful tulip. Ah, yes, the beautiful tulip. Did you know, Jerri, that their name came from a turkish word meaning 'turban'? And yes, they originally came to Holland from Turkey. Also, around the 1630s the Dutch used them as money in some instances, i.e., one bulb was a bride's dowry, three bulbs bought a canalside house, and a single bulb of a certain variety bought a flourishing brewery! (I knew I had read an article about tulips so looked it up to share this with you.-- posted by Jonell » jerrib - 2005 Tulip Festival This article may be a bit outdated, but you will still find all the information you need for this year's Skagit Valley Tulip Festival held April 1 through 30 at http://www.tulipfestival.org - don't miss the spectacular show of tulips and other things "spring!"-- posted by jerrib « Previous 1 2 3 4 Next » Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
