There is an item called Christmas Offer and it incl. a Christmas card designed by Betty MacDonald. A real treasure! For more info: macdonaldsociety@aol.com
I adore her artwork. She was such a creative personality.

» GreatNieceHesk - Great Niece of Betty's first husband.

I am the great niece of Betty's first Husband Robert, he was the brother of my grandmother, who was mentioned in the "Egg and I". Along with other members of our family, we still have an original picture of Robert "Bob" and the cougar that he actually did shoot. Just to let people understand my great uncle was not a horrible person and if people are being led to believe this let me explain a little. Bob suffered from horrible case of shell shock from the war and would have night episodes. He was devastated when Betty left him and moved to California, where he was murdered trying to protect a neighbor lady from being abused by her husband.
I still have the very small article from the paper after his death. Know this Betty was a brilliant woman but not perfect by anymeanss and could be quite cruel when she wanted.
Heidi

After reading the bios THE KETTLES' MILLION DOLLAR EGG & THE EGG AND BETTY published by Betty MacDonald Society you know what really happened at the chicken farm.
Betty had really a very hard time and it was a very difficult marriage.
Don't miss the bios. I admire Betty even more after knowing what really happened there.

Wow, how can I learn more from you? I would love to see your pictures, etc.
I know that Linde always acts like she's not connected with marketing the MacDonald Society's offerings, but it sure seems like she is. She is everywhere Betty is mentioned on the web, and posts under a number of aliases, as if she is more than one person. It's a bit creepy, actually.
Sometimes she is KarenAnderson55, sometimes other names, all touting the products, which are very expensive.
Anyway, just thought I'd clue you in, plus ask for more info.
Thanks!
Diane

I'm only a Fan from Sweden and by the way the Society products are not expensive. They are great!
Very well researched with all the details.
Betty had a very hard time with Bob.

Dear Heidi,

I'm glad I found your letter on this site. I would like you to know that I've read "The Egg & I" over and over again. It's my own opinion that Betty seemed to portray Bob as a really decent man. She said a lot of really nice things about him, I think. It's very sad that others would think Bob was a horrible person!! I thought that Bob & Betty divorced because Betty couldn't handle life on the chicken farm, not because Bob was a bad husband. I hope my letter helps you to know that not everyone thinks Bob was so horrible!!

Bob never supported Betty and his daughters.
In fact he had no contact with them.
I don't agree: She didn't say a lot of really nice things about him. She wanted to tell the truth in THE EGG but they refused and she described him the way she did but if you read her book you can feel how reality really was.
Very sad indeed and depressing!

I have read her books, and a lot of interviews with friends of Betty's and Betty's sisters. I've also read interviews with Betty's oldest daughter Anne, and not once have I read anything saying Bob was really bad. All of them said that Betty couldn't handle the loneliness of the chicken ranch and did not get along at all with Bob's Indian friends.I wonder if the real truth will ever be known??? But thanks for the answer---I never knew that Betty, Anne & Joan were never supported!! I appreciate the information.
