» jerrib - I finished
reading the book again and I have to say it was the most delightful Pacific Northwest read I have had in years. It was written in 1945 but from what I can tell was set in about the 20's here. For some luscious descriptions of the western part of our state, this is the book, folks.
It's back in print. I encourage you to get it.
You'll also see how women were victims of circumstance, for the most part, then.

» SandyMcC - The Egg and I
I knew about two of her titles and that she was a PNW resident, but that's about it. Interesting once again to find a great writer living such a 'normal' life especially through hardships like Betty endured. She died the year I was born. Thanks Jerri, once again an interesting read!

» jerrib - Welcome to WA, Roslind!
In response to message posted by roslinds:I hope you do get a chance to get the Egg & I. It will certainly fill you in on wild Washington State in the 1920's.
I see in your bio you are working on a children's historical series. Wonderful!
Thanks so much for stopping in. I'll look forward to your comments after you read the book.

» Jonell - The Egg and I Road
I was always intrigued with the sign for The Egg and I Road somewhere between Sequim and Blyn.I didn't find the Plague and I depressing...not when I read it the first time at a young age, nor the several times I reread it over the years until I finally lent it out and never got it back. She was a survivor with a great sense of humor. I remember one chapter in that book was titled, "Oh Salvadora, Don't Spit on the Floora!"
Enjoyed reading this article, Jerri.
