» jerrib - I finished

reading the book again and I have to say it was the most delightful Pacific Northwest read I have had in years.

It was written in 1945 but from what I can tell was set in about the 20's here. For some luscious descriptions of the western part of our state, this is the book, folks.

It's back in print. I encourage you to get it.

You'll also see how women were victims of circumstance, for the most part, then.

Thank you, Leigh. We are having terrible weather. Rainy, cold and perhaps snow this weekend - but I have to say Mother Nature has been giving us some sun breaks.

» SandyMcC - The Egg and I

I knew about two of her titles and that she was a PNW resident, but that's about it. Interesting once again to find a great writer living such a 'normal' life especially through hardships like Betty endured. She died the year I was born.

Thanks Jerri, once again an interesting read! smile

Glad you enjoyed reading about her, Sandy. If you can get your hands on this book, I know you'd enjoy it. It's a little like how you write about Alaska. It's wilderness here in an earlier time.

Dear Jerri,

I loved reading about Betty MacDonald in your article, but just couldn't get past the fact that you didn't get the title right on her children's books, the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle stories. They are hilarious, and funny for both young and old having a wry humor built in that children will miss entirely. You wouldn't forget the name if you were to read them, and I do recommend them.

Sorry to be picky, but there it is.
Monica

» jerrib - Welcome to WA, Roslind!

I hope you do get a chance to get the Egg & I. It will certainly fill you in on wild Washington State in the 1920's.

I see in your bio you are working on a children's historical series. Wonderful!

Thanks so much for stopping in. I'll look forward to your comments after you read the book.

» Jonell - The Egg and I Road

I was always intrigued with the sign for The Egg and I Road somewhere between Sequim and Blyn.

I didn't find the Plague and I depressing...not when I read it the first time at a young age, nor the several times I reread it over the years until I finally lent it out and never got it back. She was a survivor with a great sense of humor. I remember one chapter in that book was titled, "Oh Salvadora, Don't Spit on the Floora!"

Enjoyed reading this article, Jerri.
