It's really rich, but adding some whipping cream when you serve does do that final touch - we use Cool Whip. You have a wonderful day, too. Enjoy those kids and grandkids, cook up a storm and enjoy yourself to the hilt. Happy Turkey day! Jerri -- posted by jerrib » jerrib - Re: Thanksgiving Recipes...Mary In response to message posted by Red:I forgot to mention we are the 5th in the nation in cranberry production size (1995 statistic). I will be happy to do an article, but probably towards next fall when production is in full swing. Though you've already had Thanksgiving in Canada, do have a great day and think of Americans getting fatter on turkey dinner! LOL! Jerri -- posted by jerrib » bindweed - Re: Love them! Renie, I will let you know how it turns out. The topping I am sure about, as I used it on a cauliflower dish. The switch to mushrooms is because I just made the most fantastic mushroom soup a few days ago ... this will incorporate the method of that soup, this time thickened with flour and heavy cream. The audience is a tough crowd, so if they like it, I assure you it is good. Will take notes as I go! Jerri, what is going on with the weather? Certainly not good for mushroom gathering. Shaggy Manes are the only ones I have gathered so far. So much fun raiding other peoples gardens and riding them of UGH mushrooms -- "you're going to eat dem?" YUP By the way a GREAT mushroom book is 'Mushrooms Demystified' by David Arora. He and I used to hike the woods with another friend of ours ... this guy simply new every wild mushroom, and this book is a good introduction to over 700 species found on the Pacific Coast and throughout North America. -- posted by bindweed » jerrib - Re: Herb In response to message posted by bindweed:You know, Herb. Your message prompted me to pull our mushroom book off the bookcase (we have many throughout our house and it always amazes me I remember where one might be) to find it was published in 1962! The Savory Wild Mushroom by Margaret McKenney. Probably no longer in print! I'll have you check yours out. Does it have recipes? (Ours doesn't.) I'm really enjoying this sunshine and no rain, but I know it really isn't good for our NW plants and trees. We'll probably catch up another month. Have the best Thanksgiving ever, Herb, and I'll be interested in what your taste testers vote on your recipe. Keep us posted! Jerri -- posted by jerrib » Dubh_Sidhe - Pumpkin Pie Squares This sounds very yummy to the tummy, Jerri! I have to take dessert on Thanksgiving when I "go over the river and through the woods" and this sounds like something I can make tonight and take along with my apple pie. That is cute what you said about packing the brown sugar! LOL!Regarding wine. This year I bought Manoshevitz Sweet Blackberry Wine to pour over my fruitcakes. It is absolutely delicious, I think, even to enjoy from a glass or spoon. (He! He!) I love the picture of the little girl! Adorable! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! -- posted by Dubh_Sidhe » jerrib - Re: Pumpkin Pie Squares - Dubh In response to message posted by Dubh_Sidhe:I think you'll like the pumpkin recipe - I have a sweet tooth and it really fits the bill.
