» Tina_Coruth - Wow -- what great tour and Wow -- what great tour and great photos. This is a very interesting place and a timely reminder of the sacrifices made by World War II veterans. Just yesterday, I saw Tom Hanks in a TV ad promoting a national memorial for veterans of WWII. They certainly deserve one. It's nice to know that there are places in the US that honor them.Thank you for a very interesting article! -- posted by Tina_Coruth » Renie_Burghardt - Hi Jerri! What a great article, and for me a different prespective on World War II. Very interesting. The pictures are great, too. Those officer's quarters look mighty nice! I always enjoy your articles!Renie

But it's basically the same message. It really was a complex feeling of present and past, peace and war as we were there. It really grabbed me. Now if history teachers would have just taken a field trip now and then to places like this, war history would have come alive for me. But books and memorizing were the methods of my school days. It really is worth a visit as you're wandering the neighboring beaches there. Really adds dimension. I was not yet born (a boomer), but it still tears at my heart to learn about it. I very well remember the Vietnam war and the lack of attention paid to our soldiers when they came home.I was really surprised at how well the officers lived back then. I'm keeping my sanity this week, but barely! Grandkids go home Sunday. Jerri -- posted by jerrib » RosemaryBasil - Great tour Jerri! You did an amazing job with the photos and descriptions, I felt like I was there.I haven't been to our new WWII museum here yet but I hear it is quite something too. Thank you for your perceptions, I have been battling with Suite connections, all week, but my perseverence getting here sure paid off. Rose -- posted by RosemaryBasil » Red - Hi Jerri, well... I am glad I had time to catch up on your articles. This is an intriguing piece. I really enjoyed going with you on the tour of Fort Columbia. I didn't realize that Fort Stevens was shot upon during WWII. I would be interested in reading that story. I hope the Chinook Indians are able to get recognition from your government and have an exhibit. That would be marvelous. I find Native customs and traditions so interesting. Fortunately, I live about a 15 minute drive from the Six Nations Reservation and am able to attend many great festivals and functions. Last week we took in the annual Pow Wow. That is Mom, Brandon, my daughter and myself. Everyone else had chicken pox or some other ailment. LOL Thank you for this great article. I enjoyed the time that I spent at Fort Columbia and look forward to next week's article. -- posted by Red » jerrib - Mary It's been a while since I've heard from you. Sounds like you are still having challenges with illness in your family. Hope that all ends soon.Glad you enjoyed taking the tour with me. This place really impressed me, don't know why. But I had to share. Thanks for stopping by. Jerri -- posted by jerrib » jerrib - Steve, Thanks for Visiting It is interesting when history becomes real for a moment in time.
