I find your life more interesting as I get to know you through your posts and writing. I bet auctions are really fun to work at - especially antique auctions. I watch them on tv, but have not been to one lately. I got on Larry's mailing list so I could attend one of his soon. How fun you could be a part of this!

Auctions are addictive. I love the auctioneer's calling. In fact, I'm afraid I would be so interested in watching the activity going on I would forget to bid!

I interviewed Larry and let him know when this was published. I'm sure he will be viewing it soon.

Keep on visiting and sharing your interesting stories. I enjoy getting to know you.

» Renie_Burghardt - Stokes Auction Service!

I love auctions, Jerri, and go to them often. Here in the country, auctions are the most popular form of entertainment. They are fascinating as well as fun.

Have you ever been to an animal auction? Pigs squealing, goats bleating, horses bucking because they don't like all the noise. It's chaotic, fun and funny all at the same time. I love them.

Your article about Larry Stokes is great. A great tribute, like Mary said. I love stories where an entire family is involved in the business. Everyone contributing to its success. Very inspirational.

I hope Larry Stokes reads this piece, Jerri. He would be missing a great deal, if he didn't. A wonderful article. I enjoyed it very much.

» jerrib - Renie!

I haven't been to an animal auction, but it sure sounds like fun! I think auctions are great! I hope to get to one of Larry's auctions soon.

I interviewed Larry and he does know about and has read the article. I have started to interview Washington State folks every once in a while to add a little more interest to my site. My next interview is with an author, and I soon will interview a Washington woman who is climbing Mt. Rainier for charity.

Love your visits and comment, Renie. Thanks for stopping by.

Your colorful comments are like your great articles I read. It's great to get a bird's eye view of New Orleans through your eyes. Always glad to have you stop by. Hope this interested you enough that you will find an auction to attend.

I'm adding a "people" element to my writing by featuring Washington State folks on occasion. Please visit again soon.

Thanks for your comments!

» Red - Jerri, auctions are ...

addicting. Whether you attend or work at one, they seem to get into your blood. I miss the auctions very much. Possibly I will get to attend one this summer.

I am very picky about auctioneers. Some do not have the sing-song rhythum to their voice and some have puffers in the audience to drive prices up. I can pick them out a mile away but unless you're expecting it and know that this practice exists, you wouldn't have any idea it was going on. I have walked out of many auctions because they were using puffers. Honest auctioneers don't use them.

I would love to attend one of Larry's auctions. It seems the more I read your column, the more things there are drawing me to Washington. I really have to come there one day.

Yes, I do enjoy participating and having you participate in the discussions. This is a great way to learn about other people's lives.

Take care and we will talk soon.

» jerrib - Puffers are a new term

to me, Mary. You can see I don't know much about auctions. I'm glad to have folks like you to help teach others. Now when I do go I will check this out! Jerri

» Red - Jerri, puffers are real easy...

to spot, especially if you follow a certain auctioneer for a few weeks. The same people are always there and they bid on almost every item. Some auctioneers have a variety of people that they use as puffers so people won't catch on but somewhere, they always slip up. Most people don't bid on a majority of items up for grabs, they are just interested in certain pieces.

Ask your friend Larry about puffers, though you may have a different term for them in the US.

Glad I could fill you in on that little tidbit.

» Tina_Coruth - Great article, Jerri!

Great article, Jerri! It must have been quite a kick to interview Larry again after 25 years. He and his family certainly have done well building the business. My husband has been to auctions, but I never have. I have learned a lot reading your article and the discussion posts.

I thought Larry was pretty remarkable, to build the auction business and to teach. I couldn't believe my eyes when I read that he also has a taxidermy business - I'm exhausted just reading about all that he does!

The links are great. I was amazed to see the taxidermy link. I never realized there would be a market for so many different animals and the prices were very interesting. Taxidermy must require a great deal of labor.

Fascinating article all the way around -- thanks, Jerri.

It was great talking to Larry again. I really was glad to see he and his family had done so well.

Writing does expose you to lots of folks. It's folks like Larry that really give me cheer; the guy that succeeded - with a supportive family. And even better that I rediscovered them after all those years.

Glad you enjoyed learning about Larry and the auction business.
