Hooray!!!You always add a bit more interest to my tales; I do remember the Hood Canal Bridge part floating away. And I love the ferry ride from Tacoma to Vashon. I used to merchandise candy bars and loved the once-a-month trips to the island on that ferry. Jerri -- posted by jerrib » Tina_Coruth - Last night I was flipping through Last night I was flipping through the channels and saw a bridge being violently shaken in the wind. I said, "that must be Galloping Gertie" and it was. I certainly surprised the family by announcing that just before the narrator! For a few seconds I dazzled them with my knowledge, but then I fessed up to the fact that I had only a couple of weeks ago read your article. It was a kick to see the program after having read your terrific article and followed the links. Thanks! :-)Christina -- posted by Tina_Coruth » jerrib - Christina I smile as I imagine your moment of glory. I'm glad I was able to add some "bridge trivia" to your repertoire! I was surprised to see the same thing on television. Thanks for taking the time to let me know about your experience. Nothing pleases a writer more.-- posted by jerrib » jerrib - Washington State - Covered Bridge Thought you might enjoy a photo of our state's covered bridge near Woodland, WA.<img SRC="http://www.suite101.com/files/topics/398..."> -- posted by jerrib » Tina_Coruth - Re: Washington State's Only Covered Bridge In response to message posted by jerrib:Wow -- that's quite a spectacular picture!! Thanks for showing us Washington States Only Covered Bridge. How old is it? It's a nice one! Tina -- posted by Tina_Coruth » jerrib - A reader has asked this question about locating a bridge Can anyone help track it down? His request:"I'm looking for a curved bridge, suspended over a gorge, the cables 'harp like" He thinks it might be in WA or OR - I wonder about BC? Any help is appreciated. If you can track it down he'd be grateful. Thanks. -- posted by jerrib » jerrib - Re: Please read the last post In response to message posted by jerrib:The bridge was never built, according to the person who posed the question, Paul Tierney. It was designed, however, to go over a dam. Here's the link if anyone's interested in reading about the Ruck-A-Chucky Bridge that was never built in CA: http://www.ketchum.org/bridges.html - look down the page to find it. Quite an interesting proposal! Thanks for the question, Paul. I was interested when doing research at google.com to see how many folks are on the internet regarding bridges. I visited this site but didn't go down the page unless it was a WA or OR bridge. Great piece of information. -- posted by jerrib » jerrib - Re: Washington State's Only Covered Bridge In response to message posted by jerrib:I stand corrected. This is the second covered bridge I know about. It stands proudly down a gravel road near Woodland, WA. As mentioned in my bridge article the Grays River Covered Bridge in Grays Harbor County is purported to be the oldest. I don't know the age of this bridge. -- posted by jerrib « Previous 1 2 3 Next » Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
